Post-credit scene
Post-Credit Scene for Evil Dead - 2013
Spoiler warning: this page describes the post-credit scene and may reveal the ending.
Does Evil Dead Have a Post-Credit Scene?

Yes! Evil Dead (2013) features a brief post-credit scene after the entire credits have finished. During the credits, viewers can also hear audio connected to Professor Raymond Knowby and the Book of the Dead from the original Evil Dead mythology. However, the real surprise comes at the very end, when Bruce Campbell makes an unexpected appearance as the franchise's legendary hero, Ash Williams.
What Happens in the Post-Credit Scene?

After the credits finish, the screen reveals the shadowy profile of an older Ash Williams, once again played by Bruce Campbell. Ash slowly raises his head, looks toward the camera and delivers his iconic catchphrase: “Groovy.” The screen then cuts to black. The sequence lasts only a few seconds and does not feature Mia Allen or directly continue the events at the cabin, but it gives longtime Evil Dead fans one final surprise before the movie ends.
What Does the Post-Credit Scene Mean?

Ash's appearance was more than just a nostalgic reference to the original trilogy. Director Fede Álvarez explained that the cameo was intended to suggest that Ash could exist within the same broader universe as Mia's story rather than having the 2013 film simply erase or replace the earlier movies. It connected the new generation of Evil Dead to Bruce Campbell's iconic character while deliberately leaving the exact relationship between their stories ambiguous. Álvarez later revealed that he had even considered bringing Ash directly into Mia's story.
Does It Set Up a Sequel or Prequel?

Not directly, but it originally pointed toward much bigger sequel plans. After Evil Dead was released, Fede Álvarez discussed ideas for continuing Mia Allen's story and eventually bringing her together with Ash Williams in a crossover movie. An earlier concept even had Ash encounter Mia after she escaped the cabin. Those plans never became a film, while Bruce Campbell instead returned as Ash in the television series Ash vs Evil Dead. The franchise later continued through new stories such as Evil Dead Rise and Evil Dead Burn, meaning the 2013 post-credit scene ultimately remains a tantalizing glimpse of an Ash-and-Mia crossover that never happened.
